Staffordshire pilot project to ease congestion

A pedestrian crossing in Staffordshire will be moved as part of a pilot project to cut congestion.

Staffordshire County Council will be closing the existing crossing point on Mill Street, in Stone.

Work will begin later, to replace it with a temporary crossing located before the junction.

The council said the aim is to ease tailbacks caused when shoppers leave Morrison's car park and drive onto Christchurch Way.

A council spokesman said the trial will last for a month and comes after motorists said they were having problems exiting the supermarket.

He added the work to move the crossing will take about a week.

Traffic will be controlled using lane restrictions and signs.
