Stoke-on-Trent City councillor allowances published online

Councillors in Stoke-on-Trent are to have details of their allowances published online from Monday.

The details, covering the last financial year, can be seen on the council's website.

The information shows the basic allowance, special responsibility allowance and money paid for travel and subsistence, the council said.

Council leader Mohammed Pervez said it demonstrated the Labour-run authority's openness and transparency.

Councillors who live up to four miles from the Civic Centre can claim an annual travel allowance of £500 and those living more than four miles away can claim £600, the council said.

Members receive a basic allowance of £11,000, with varying additions - £11,000 for cabinet members and £33,000 for the council leader, they added.

In February, the council said it had approved plans to cut 710 jobs as it tries to save £36m.
