Operation over fake ID launched in Lichfield

An operation to tackle people using fake ID to buy alcohol is being launched in Staffordshire.

Police said they would take action against those found to be flouting the law in Lichfield.

The county's Trading Standards department has said it will also take action against suppliers of fake ID cards.

The month-long awareness operation involves pubs, bars and clubs within the PubWatch scheme.

County councillor Pat Corfield, cabinet member for communities, said trading standards had been working closely with licensed businesses to introduce initiatives in a bid to reduce underage drinking.

He added: "Officers will take strong action against anyone who is found to be supplying forgeries."
