Four held after Staffordshire Police find drugs in car

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of supplying crack cocaine after an officer saw a car go the wrong way down a one-way street.

The driver ignored a no entry sign outside Newcastle-under-Lyme Police Station, in Staffordshire.

It was spotted going the wrong way down Merrial Street on Thursday afternoon.

The officer approached the car, searched it, and discovered a quantity of what is believed to be crack cocaine, a Class A drug.

Officer's intuition

The suspects, three men and a woman from the West Midlands, were taken into custody where they remained on Friday.

They were all arrested on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply.

Insp Neil Hulme said: "This was a case of an officer using their intuition when responding to a traffic offence to uncover a potentially serious drug crime.

"We're determined to crack down on drug dealing in Staffordshire."
