Staffordshire train delays after signalling cable cut
Commuters in Staffordshire experienced four hours of delays after 131ft (40m) of signalling cable was damaged.
The cable was cut, but not stolen, north of Lichfield Trent Valley station at about 07:20 BST, affecting north-bound services through the area.
Five trains were cancelled and 10 were part-cancelled, with delays to other services totalling about 2,500 minutes.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said they were unsure if it had been "an attempted theft or vandalism".
Engineers rectified the problem and managed to get trains running normally at about 11:20 BST.
British Transport Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or who has information about those responsible for the damage, to come forward."
