Man killed on A518 near Haughton as vehicle hits tree

A man died when the car he was driving left the road and hit a tree in Staffordshire.

Police said the incident happened at about 13:30 GMT on the A518 near Haughton, between Gnosall and Stafford.

The man, who was driving a blue Ford Focus, died at the scene. Formal identification has yet to take place, a spokesman said.

No other vehicles were thought to have been involved. Part of the road was shut in both directions for two hours.
