Stafford Hospital death investigated by police
Police have said they are investigating the death of a 57-year-old woman last month at Stafford Hospital.
Officers said the woman, from Cannock, died at the hospital on 13 October. Police said post-mortem tests had so far proved inconclusive.
The hospital trust said two staff members had been suspended although one had since been reinstated.
A public inquiry is being held into failings at Stafford Hospital which was criticised for poor levels of care.
The inquiry is looking into monitoring by regulatory bodies after a higher-than-expected number of deaths occurred between 2005 and 2008.
Staffordshire Police said tests were continuing to establish how the woman had died.
Officers said the investigation was being carried out at the request of HM Coroner.
In a statement, Manjit Obhrai, medical director at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust, said: "The trust reported this incident to the coroner, who has asked the police to investigate.
"The police did not seize any records as the trust is co-operating fully with them.
"As the police investigation is ongoing, we are unable to comment at this time."
