Pair hurt as car falls from bridge in Staffordshire

Two people were injured when their car plunged 15ft (4.5m) from a bridge into a brook, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

The accident happened at 22:15 GMT on Wednesday at Ellastone in Staffordshire.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was trapped for some time before being taken to hospital with a head injury.

The passenger, a woman in her 20s, also needed hospital treatment for a leg injury.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "Considering the nature of this incident, the occupants were extremely fortunate not to have suffered more serious or even fatal injuries."
