A522 speed limit reviewed after crashes

The speed limit on a Staffordshire road is to be assessed after two fatal collisions this year.

Two men died on the A522 in the Cheadle area and there have also been seven slight injury collisions on the 60mph (96km/h) stretch of road since 2008.

Staffordshire Road Safety Partnership will look at the speed limit.

The county council has promised to investigate the stretch between Cheadle and Clamgoose Lane to identify any relevant safety measures.

Cabinet member for highways and transport Mike Maryon said: "Residents have told me their fears and have made some solid suggestions about how to improve the road layout to make it safer.

"We now need to go out there and get the facts so that we can put appropriate and effective measures in place to ensure that the road is as safe as possible."

The partnership has carried out a speed check of vehicles as well as installing enhanced warning signs and "slow" markings on the road earlier this month.
