Staffordshire Police live updates on Twitter and Facebook

Police in Staffordshire are tweeting live updates on what is set to be one of the busiest nights of the year for the emergency services.

Updates were being posted from across the county, including Lichfield, Stoke-on-Trent and Tamworth, from 19:00 GMT.

Safer Nights Live is the second social media event the force has organised.

Officers said it would give people an insight on their work on the night many people are expected to go out to celebrate Christmas.

Earlier in the year, the police force ran a similar event to give the public an insight into what happened on a Friday night at a custody centre.

A spokesman said officers would also be answering questions from the public posted on both Facebook and Twitter.

Officers will also be uploading photographs to the force's Facebook profile and the force website.

A video streamed on the website will show how the police deal with someone who has been brought in for being excessively drunk.

Twitter users can follow @staffpolice and can comment by using the hash tag #safernightslive.
