Man's death after fight in Blurton 'unexplained'

Police have said a fight in an area of Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday night may have led to a man's death the following day.

The 43-year-old, who has yet to be formally identified, was pronounced dead at University Hospital North Staffordshire on Monday morning.

He had initially returned home after being involved in a fight in Blurton shortly after 21:30 GMT on Sunday.

His death is being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem tester are due to take place on Tuesday.

Staffordshire Police said the man was believed to have been involved in a fight with a number of other men at Meaford Drive, at its junctions with Brookside Drive and Roundway.

Insp Chris Harrington said: "A detailed investigation into last night's incident is now under way and I ask anyone who may have seen, or heard, anything suspicious to get in touch.

"Officers are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to determine the exact circumstances of what happened, and whether or not this contributed to the man's death earlier today.

"As a result of the investigation there is increased police activity in the community, and high-visibility patrols are being carried out by local neighbourhood officers to reassure residents."

Staffordshire Police urged anyone with information on the incident to contact them on the non-emergency 101 number.
