Man arrested after fatal collision on the A53 in Stoke
A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a crash in which a 21-year-old man was killed.
Geoffrey Firkins, from Chell Heath, Stoke, died after his Vauxhall Astra was involved in a collision with another car and a HGV in the city.
The crash happened on the A53 Elder Road at about 3:40 GMT.
Staffordshire Police said the 24-year-old driver of the Peugeot 206 involved in the crash was bailed until April as inquiries continued.
An ambulance service spokesman said: "The driver of the damaged car had suffered multiple injuries.
"Unfortunately, his condition worsened at hospital and despite all of the efforts of ambulance and hospital staff the man died around an hour after arrival."
Police want to hear from witnesses who saw either car near to Cobridge traffic lights prior to the collision or anyone who was in contact with Mr Firkins on Monday evening.
A stretch of the A53 was closed for several hours after the collision but has since reopened.
