Missing Thomas Haddock found dead in woods, police say

The body of a man found in woodland in Staffordshire is that of missing 21-year-old Thomas Haddock, police have confirmed.

Mr Haddock, from Cheltenham, went missing on 18 February and his body was found in Riles Spinney, off Common Lane near Fradley, on Saturday.

Staffordshire Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Haddock, who was on his way to meet friends in Lichfield, was last seen in Kings Bromley.

Insp Jed White said: "This is a very sad conclusion to our investigation to find Thomas and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

"I would like to thank all members of the affected community, and the general public, for their help, assistance and offers of support around the investigation over the past week.

"It is heart-warming to see so many people offering their support in such circumstances."

Rescue teams had been searching between his mother's home in Kings Bromley and Fradley, as well as the nearby Trent and Mersey Canal.

Mr Haddock was last seen at Fradley junction at about 21:45 GMT when he asked for directions back towards his mother's house.

A Facebook page called RIP Tom Haddockhas been set up.

One post said: "So many people were willing you to be safe - such a sad, tragic loss."

Mr Haddock's sister, Emily, had set up a Facebook page to appeal for information after her brother went missing.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday.
