Council could invest £7.5m in superfast broadband plan

A £7.5m investment in superfast broadband is to be discussed by Staffordshire County Council.

The council said if approved "at least 90% of Staffordshire residents and businesses" would have access to the service by mid-2015.

It said if the investment got the go-ahead, there would be a consultation with residents to determine where the greatest demand was.

The county council's cabinet will discuss the investment on 21 March.

Mark Winnington, cabinet member for assets and environment, said access to superfast broadband was "vital for modern day-to-day living for all ages and we see this infrastructure as important as road or rail".
