Police searching for a missing Staffordshire teenager have recovered a body from the River Trent.

Staffordshire Police said although a formal identification had yet to take place, it was believed to be Tyler Gardner, 18, from Lichfield.

Officers found the body on Thursday morning while searching the river in Burton upon Trent.

Mr Gardner was last seen leaving the Manitoba nightclub in High Street at 00:35 GMT on 26 February.

A 30ft high photo of the teenager was projected on a building in Lichfield earlier this month, in a bid to find him.

Officers said the death was not being treated as suspicious and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

Mr Tyler's family have been informed and are being offered support, police added.

Insp Darren Oakey said: "Unfortunately we believe the body recovered is that of Tyler - this is a very sad conclusion to our investigation to find Tyler.

"Our thoughts and sympathy go out to his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

"I would like to thank all members of the public that helped with the search, and for their general support and assistance around the investigation over the past few weeks."
