Staffordshire village cut off by telephone cable theft
Phones have been cut off in a Staffordshire village after 1,200m (4,000ft) of telephone cable was stolen.
Staffordshire Police said the theft around the village of Colton happened just after 01:00 GMT.
BT said 57 faults have been reported to them and it is having to reconnect each customer one at a time.
"It is too early to say when repairs will be completed," a spokesman for the company said.
The cable was taken from the junction of Bellamour Way, along the Colton Road, towards Rugeley and the thieves would have spent some time at the various manhole covers along this stretch of road, police said.
BT said the attack was "extremely regrettable" and said it was using Smartwater in its network to deter criminals.
