Matthew Ellis selected as candidate for police commissioner job

The Conservatives have announced their candidate for the role of Staffordshire police commissioner.

County councillor for Lichfield Rural East, Matthew Ellis, is their selection for the 15 November election.

Mr Ellis is the cabinet member for adults wellbeing. Stoke-on-Trent city councillor Joy Garner was announced as Labour's candidate last month.

The commissioner will be able to hire and fire chief constables, hold them to account and set the force budgets.
