Staffordshire A51 road closed due to fear of trees falling
A major road in Staffordshire is still closed because of fears that the weight of snow may bring more trees down.
The A51 between Lichfield and Rugeley remains closed at Brertonhill because of the problem, Staffordshire County Council said.
A spokesman said the A53 Leek to Buxton Road and the A523 Ashbourne Road are only passable "with extreme care".
"I think our worst issue is the wind, as the snow just blows in behind," Mike Maryon, head of highways, said
"And I've just been told by our road engineer that temperatures are going to drop overnight to minus six."
Tree surgeons will assess the safety of the trees along the road before it is re-opened, he added.
The council warned that strong winds are "likely to cause further drifting of snow".
Alton Towers and Drayton Manor theme parks were both closed because of the extreme weather.
