Work begins on Stafford water pipes scheme

Work is starting on a £15m project to upgrade water and sewer pipes in Stafford.

The water pipes in the town had grown old and were prone to leaks and bursts, Severn Trent Water said.

Three-way lights are operating and from next Monday a section of Tixall Road will be closed until December.

More than 12 miles (20km) of new water pipes are being laid from the Shugborough area into Stafford town centre.

Severn Trent said the town was "expanding rapidly" and to prevent sewers from being overwhelmed, it was investing £5m to upgrade two major sewage pumping stations and install three miles (5km) of new sewers.
