Three men from Stoke-on-Trent have been charged after allegations of racial abuse at a match between Port Vale and Chesterfield in August.

David Cooper, 55, of Beechmont Grove, Wayne Reeves, 34, of Esperanto Way, Smallthorne, and Phillip Bednall, 45, of Riley Avenue each face two charges.

They are due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on 16 October.

All three have been given banning letters by Port Vale, police said.

The three men have each been charged with one count of causing racially or religiously aggravated fear or provocation of violence and one count of using threatening, abusive or insulting words, police said.

Staffordshire Police said it was continuing to work closely with both Port Vale and Chesterfield football clubs.
