Tamworth base jumper falls 300ft without parachute

A base jumper whose parachute failed to open has had a "fortunate escape" after plunging 300ft (90m).

The man in his 30s fell from a telecommunications mast near Tamworth, Staffordshire, at 08:30 GMT, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

They treated the man for a pelvic injury, before he was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

A spokesman said the man was "fortunate to escape serious injury".
