Two men accused of attacking a 60-year-old man have been charged with murder following his death 10 months after the assault.

Leonard Holmes was attacked in Stoke-on-Trent in April 2014 as he made his way home from a family night out.

He suffered head and facial injuries and died in hospital on 3 February. He had never regained consciousness.

Jacob Havard, 19, and Matthew Fereday, 23, were charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the pair are due to appear at Stafford Crown Court on 9 March.

Mr Holmes was attacked in the early hours of 5 April in Brownley Road, at the junction with Community Drive, in Smallthorne.
