Work has begun to demolish thousands of tonnes of concrete on the site of a former JCB factory in Staffordshire.

The firm left the base on Pinfold Street, in Uttoxeter, in 2008 and moved to a new £40m facility, by the nearby A50.

The site is to be turned into a park and more than 250 high quality homes, JCB said.

Work has also started on a Waitrose store on an adjoining site, after JCB sold another section of land.

The Pinfold Street site has links with the Bamford family dating back 140 years. JCB was founded by Joseph Cyril Bamford in 1945.
