Missing walker's body found in Peak District river

The body of a woman has been found in a river after she was reported missing.

The discovery was made at about midday on Sunday in the River Manifold in Ilam, near Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

Officers from Staffordshire Police were told the woman had gone out walking alone at 10:00 BST but had not returned when expected.

The force said the woman's body was found close to the hotel where she had been staying and it was treating her death as unexplained.

A post-mortem examination will take place in the coming days to establish a cause of death.

Police asked anyone who saw a woman walking alone in Ilam on Sunday morning to get in touch.
