A man has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing his partner to death.

Lisa Reynolds, aged 30, a mother of two children, was found with stab wounds in Stoke-on-Trent in February.

Barry Knapper, 31, who has paranoid schizophrenia, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.

Det Ch Insp Dave Giles of Staffordshire Police, said it may never be known what went through Napper's mind on the night of the killing, 21 February, at an address in Cliveden Road, Abbey Hulton.

"What we do know is, but for his actions that night, Lisa's children would still have their mum and Lisa, herself, would have a life ahead of her," he said.

Ms Reynold's family said people could not imagine how painful the last six months had been.

"Lisa was a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, aunt and friend to many but above all she was a mum to two beautiful boys," they said.
