Girl, 14, raped in Sudbury attack

Police said an attack on a 14-year-old girl in Suffolk was now being treated as rape.

The girl was with a friend in North Street, Sudbury, on Saturday night when they began talking to two men.

One of them took the girl down an alley to a car park where he raped her. The attack was witnessed by her friend who shouted at the man and he ran off.

Police appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact officers.

The attacker was described as being of mixed race, aged in his late 20s, of slim build with short dark hair.

Victim injured

He was wearing a cap and dark clothing and smoked cigarettes.

Det Insp Andy Footer said the girl was extremely traumatised by the attack and had suffered some minor injuries.

He said her friend was also shocked at witnessing the attack.

He appealed for anyone who may have been in the North Street and Girling Street areas on Saturday night to contact police.

Officers are continuing inquiries in Sudbury town centre.
