Council ends talks over bus service in Ipswich

A council in Suffolk has ended talks over whether to sell its stake in a bus service to a private company.

In 2009 Ipswich Borough Council started "exclusive" talks with the Go Ahead Group about Ipswich Buses.

There was fierce opposition to the move with fears the cost of using the buses would rise.

In a statement the council said it had reached a decision: "Discussions have concluded with an agreement that the time is not right to proceed."

Go-Ahead provides passenger transport services, primarily in the bus and rail sectors, throughout the UK.
