Boys reprimanded over heath fires in Suffolk

Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested over starting fires that spread across heathland in Suffolk.

Police said they were able to identify the boys from descriptions given by members of the public.

The pair admitted starting the fires on Rushmere Heath but had not expected them to spread. They both received formal reprimands, police said.

"We are now working with firefighters and heath wardens to educate youngsters about the dangers," the spokesman said.

Sgt Phil Barrett explained: "This is a prime example of how irresponsible behaviour can endanger the safety of the public and the environment.

"We continue to work closely with our partners to ensure that local young people are educated and appropriate enforcement can be carried out."
