Plans to refurbish leisure centre in Brandon, Suffolk

A £500,000 refurbishment scheme for a leisure centre in Suffolk has been agreed by a council.

The work at Brandon Leisure Centre, funded by Forest Heath District Council, will provide it with new health and fitness facilities.

The existing indoor bowls area is to be replaced with a fitness studio with the latest equipment as well as an area for group exercise.

Work will start in September and should be completed by the end of November.

The work on the centre will also see the modernisation of the changing rooms which will be accessible to people with disabilities.

Richard Balfe, chairman of Anglia Community Leisure - which runs the centre, said: "Our aim is to transform this rather dated sports centre into a modern health and wellbeing facility for the whole community to use and enjoy.

"This is all about giving everyone the facilities they need to get more active."

The leisure centre wants to increase its regular membership from 200 to 500 or more.
