Ipswich street stabbing: Man remanded in custody

A 32-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon in Suffolk.

He was arrested after a contract worker from Sizewell nuclear power station was stabbed in a street in Ipswich.

Police were called to Wherstead Road at about 03:00 BST on Saturday and found a 22-year-old man, whose family live in South Africa, with stab wounds.

The arrested man is due to appear again on 15 September at Ipswich Crown Court.

Police said they had spoken to the family of the injured man, who was critical but stable in hospital with wounds to his arms and abdomen.
