Skeletal remains found by workmen on a building site in Ipswich, Suffolk, are human, police have confirmed.

The discovery was made on Monday on wasteland at Valley Road where four houses are being built.

Officers are working with experts including a forensic archaeologist and anthropologist to identify the remains.

The site has been derelict for many years and police want to hear from anyone who can provide information about the site.

Det Ch Insp Neil Luckett said: "This investigation is in its very early stages but I can confirm the remains that were discovered are human.

"We are working to identify the sex and age of the deceased and will progress our investigations as we gather more information."

He urged anyone with information to contact police.
