Skeletal remains found on a building site in Ipswich are from a human male, police have confirmed.

The discovery was made in Valley Road on Monday at a site where four houses are being built.

Officers found further remains, thought to be from the same person and also clothing, including footwear.

Det Ch Insp Neil Luckett said police were trying to identify the man and determine his age. He said the death was being treated as "unexplained".

"Inquiries into this discovery are ongoing and work on the site, including further searches, will continue through the weekend.

"We will be looking to take the recovered bones to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination next week."

Police urged anyone with information about the history of the site to get in contact.
