Woman sexually assaulted in Ipswich alley

A 27-year-old woman who had been sitting on a bench in a Suffolk street on Sunday was later sexually assaulted.

Four men approached the woman in Austin Street, Ipswich, at about 20:30 BST and spoke to her but she walked off saying she needed to go home.

The men followed and she was pushed into an alley and assaulted by one man.

The woman freed herself and walked to Hartley Street where she was pushed into another alleyway and assaulted both sexually and physically.

A member of the public saw the woman and helped her as the men made off.

Two of the men were described by police as white, aged in their late 20s to early 30s, of slim/small build, with Liverpudlian accents.

The two others were mixed race, one of average build and height and the other about 6ft 2ins, slim and wearing a red top with a logo on the front.

Det Insp Stuart Sowerby said: "The investigation is still in the early stages and we are working with the victim to establish exactly what has taken place.

"We would urge anyone with information to contact us."
