Explosion at Ipswich flat leaves man seriously injured

A man who was seriously injured in an explosion at a property in Ipswich has been taken to a specialist burns unit.

Emergency services were called to a flat in Ellenbrook Green at 22:00 GMT on Friday following reports of an explosion, Suffolk Police said.

The injured man was taken overnight from Ipswich Hospital to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, where his condition is stable.

A 41-year-old man from Ipswich has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

He is being questioned at Martlesham police station.

The area has been cordoned off while officers examine the scene to establish the cause of the explosion.

A structural examination has also been carried out at the flat.
