Newmarket plan to turn horse manure into fuel

Horse manure from stables in Newmarket could be converted to fuel and fertiliser.

GE Eco Solutions has submitted a planning application to install a recycling facility at Jockey Club Estates land at Southfield Farm.

It says 5,000 of the 25,000 tonnes of waste generated annually at Newmarket's training yards could be recycled.

Newmarket Town Council said it is considering the application and would announce its decision on 9 January.

William Gittus, Jockey Club Estates managing director, said: "The existing disposal system is undoubtedly efficient but it is costly and produces significant lorry movements throughout the town.

"I hope that a viable, more environmentally friendly solution has been found to the problem."
