Lowestoft crash: David Wright killed as he crosses road

A male pedestrian was killed and his wife seriously injured when they were struck by a car as they crossed a road.

Emergency services were called to Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft, at 21:00 GMT on Monday.

David Wright, 74, of Gainsborough Drive, Lowestoft, died. His wife, who is in her 70s, is critically ill in hospital.

A 27-year-old woman was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She was bailed until 7 April.

A man and two children who had been crossing the road with the couple were unhurt.

Suffolk Police closed the road for seven hours while investigations took place.
