Detectives investigating an "evil" attack on an 89-year-old widow say the response to appeals for help has been "encouraging".

Connie Hallford was knocked to the floor when three masked men broke into her Lakenheath home in Suffolk on 17 February.

She later described her attackers, who demanded money, as "evil".

Det Insp David Giles said he still needed the "vital piece of information" to move the inquiry forward.

He added: "Connie is receiving the appropriate support and care she needs, and I'm pleased to say that she is doing well.

"It would be good to be able to reassure her soon that we have caught those responsible."

All three men have been described as wearing dark clothing and had their faces largely covered.

Police said they wanted to speak to anyone who saw a black car - possibly a Vauxhall Astra or similar - in the Back Lane area of the town.

The charity Crimestoppers has offered a £2,000 reward to help catch those responsible.
