A 37-year-old man has been jailed for raping a woman in a house while she slept.

Tautvydas Bruzas, of Berners Street, Ipswich, had denied attacking the woman at a property in the town on 14 September last year.

The victim, who is in her early 20s, told police she had awoken to find Bruzas raping her.

The jury at Ipswich Crown Court reached a unanimous guilty verdict. He was jailed for six years.

Acting Det Insp Darren Bruce, from Suffolk Police, said: "Bruzas initially told police the sex had been consensual - despite him telling witnesses at the scene that nothing had happened.

"But with the victim's account, and that of others present in the property, he was charged with rape.

Det Insp Bruce added: "We hope the verdict will go some way to helping the woman as she tries to come to terms with what happened".

Bruzas also been added to the sex offenders' register.
