A parish priest has pleaded not guilty to a charge he defrauded his church of £13,000.

Canon Ian Finn, 55, from Hopton Rise, Haverhill in Suffolk, has been accused of fraud by abuse of position.

The charge relates to church service fees at St Mary The Virgin in Haverhill town centre and the offence is alleged to have taken place between 2007 and 2014.

Canon Finn appeared at Ipswich Crown Court to deny the charge.

He is due to stand trial at a later date and he has been remanded on bail.

The Church of England said Canon Finn had been suspended pending the outcome of the court case.
