Two women have been jailed for carrying out an armed robbery at a bookmaker in Lowestoft.

Kelly Payne, 38, from Thurston Road, Lowestoft, attacked the manager of Betfred with a knife and stole money on 15 October, police said.

Sonia O'Gara, 39, from Chapel Street in the town, kept watch outside the bookmaker, on London Road North.

Payne was jailed for five years at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday, and O'Gara for three years.

Payne was found guilty of robbery and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. O'Gara was convicted of robbery.

A third defendant, Roger O'Gara, was given a six month suspended jail sentence for assisting an offender.

Det Con Stephen Clarke said: "This was a particularly vicious and violent attack which caused a serious injury to the victim, which could have been a lot worse.

"We're pleased that those responsible have been brought to justice."
