A man is in hospital after having part of his ear bitten off in a fight in Surrey involving two groups of men, one group on a stag night.

Twelve other people were also taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford in the early hours of Sunday after the fight in Godalming.

Eight men were arrested on suspicion of affray and causing grievous bodily harm and later bailed until 3 November.

Surrey Police said the fight started after a row between two men in a bar.

The dispute, which started in the toilets of the Lounge Bar, spilled out into the club and escalated outside on the High Street.

The man whose ear was bitten off was taken to St George's Hospital, Tooting, south London for treatment.

Punched and kicked

A police spokeswoman said officers received numerous calls from people reporting fights at various locations.

"This was a large-scale incident of violent disorder," said Det Con Matt Evans.

"Officers were on the scene within minutes and quickly identified the main victim, who is still receiving treatment for the serious injury to his ear.

"A number of other people also suffered injury from being punched and kicked as a result of the various scuffles which broke out."

Police are viewing CCTV footage of the incident and interviewing witnesses and have asked anyone else with information to come forward.

A man who was charged with drinking and driving after his car hit a parked police car while road closures were being put in place is due in court on 6 September.
