Stanwell boy, 14, struck with glass bottle in Sunbury

A 14-year-old was hit on the head with a glass bottle and robbed while waiting for a bus in Surrey.

The victim, from Stanwell, was attacked by three teenagers at the bus stop at Sunbury Cross shopping centre in Staines Road West, Sunbury-on-Thames.

As he lay on the floor, the gang tried to hit him with the bottle again but he put his hands up to protect himself.

Surrey Police said he was treated at St Peter's Hospital for "deep lacerations" to his neck, head and hands.

'Terrifying assault'

His attackers stole a mobile phone and a white wallet containing bank cards and around £20.

Detectives have appealed for information about the incident, which happened at 2230 BST on Monday.

Det Insp Derrick Laing said: "The young victim sustained substantial injuries as a result of what must have been a terrifying assault.

"His injuries could easily have been even more serious and possibly even fatal."
