Surrey hospital helpline speeds up prescriptions

A Surrey NHS trust's pharmacy is speeding up the time it takes patients to receive their prescribed medicines with the use of a dedicated helpline.

Patients at Ashford and St Peter's hospitals can call a number for queries relating to their medication.

A prescription tracker also allows staff to ensure prescriptions are completed within the target time.

Chief pharmacist, Victoria Griffiths, said the new system had helped the hospitals to prioritise dispensing.

She added that recent surveys had shown many patients were not happy with the time it was taking to receive prescriptions once they had left hospital.
