Man, 85, dies following collision in Farnham

An 85-year-old man has died after he was struck by a car in Surrey while on a shopping trip.

The man was crossing Farnborough Road, Farnham, at about 1745 GMT on Thursday when the accident happened.

Surrey Police said he was in collision with a blue Ford Focus, which was heading towards Aldershot.

The injured man was taken to Frimley Park Hospital, but was later transferred to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where he died.

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said the man had yet to be formally identified.

A 31-year-old man is currently in custody helping police with their inquiries, she added.

Farnborough Road was closed for five hours while investigations were carried out.
