Police link cab driver robberies in Elmbridge

Cab drivers in a Surrey borough have been warned to be vigilant after two were robbed within 24 hours.

Police in Elmbridge said one of the drivers was threatened and robbed by two men after he drove to an address in West Molesey to collect a passenger.

A similar incident occurred when a driver was called to collect a fare from an address in Thames Ditton the following evening, on 13 January.

During the robbery, the victim's face was covered with a scarf.

Cash, a sat-nav system and a mobile phone were stolen.

Cash was stolen in the first robbery. Police said they were linking both incidents.

Two men in their 20s were arrested in connection with the robbery in West Molesey, and freed on police bail until 21 January.

A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the second robbery and released with no further action taken.
