The redevelopment of a village hall in Surrey has been given a cash boost from local police officers.

Dorking Rural West neighbourhood officers chose the Beare Green village hall as a good cause to benefit from funds acquired by the force.

Police community support officers Kim Boichat and Pat Booker handed over a cheque for £500 to parish councillors.

Councillor Pauline Parrish said the funds would go toward modernising the hall.

"It is hoped the redevelopment will keep the hall the centre of the community for years to come," she said.

Village residents are to be consulted over the coming months on what they would like the hall to offer the community.
