Esher fund to benefit poorer families

Residents living in an area of Surrey are launching a new scheme aimed at helping poorer families.

The Esher Neighbourhood Fund wants to raise £150,000 through local donations for work training schemes and sports activities for vulnerable people.

It is backed by the Community Foundation for Surrey, which aims to inspire local giving for local needs.

Dominic Raab, Conservative MP for Esher and Walton, said the fund was about "saying we look out for each other".

"I hope it will prove a model that can be followed elsewhere in the future," he said.

Local community causes in the Esher area which will benefit from the fund include support for families and children in the Lower Green area, and training opportunities for people wishing to get back to work.
