Guilldford Council secures funding to help homeless

Extra funding to expand a team that provides support for homeless people in Guildford has been secured.

Guildford Borough Council said the government had provided an extra £120,000 to tackle homelessness.

The money will be spent on expanding an outreach team that works to find suitable homes for rough sleepers

Kim Rippett, the head of the council's housing services, said while the number of rough sleepers was low, there was a risk of many more losing their homes.

The money will also fund the support service provided by Guildford and Ash Citizens' Advice Bureaux for the next 12 months.

The service focuses on helping vulnerable families in the borough at risk of losing their home through debt.
