Driver on A3 dies when car hits tree at Burpham

A driver has died at the scene of a crash in Surrey after his car left the road and hit a tree.

Emergency teams were called to the scene just off the slip road from the southbound A3 at Burpham, just after 0200 BST.

Surrey Police said officers had received reports of a single vehicle spotted in trees.

Police and paramedics went to the scene but the man was declared dead. He has not yet been identified.

The slip road has been closed while the vehicle, a Peugeot 308, is recovered and investigations are carried out.

One lane of the southbound A3 has also been closed for a mile leading up to the slip road.

Police have urged anyone who saw the crash, or the car being driven on the A3 before the accident happened, to contact them.
