Man questioned over Addlestone murder

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a man who was found dead in his flat in Surrey.

The body of John Dowling, 56, was found at his home in Abell Court, Brighton Road, Addlestone, on 7 February. He was last seen two days earlier.

A post-mortem examination showed he suffered multiple injuries.

Surrey Police said the man was arrested on Tuesday morning in Addlestone, and had been taken to Guildford police station for questioning.

The last confirmed sighting of Mr Dowling was on the evening of 5 February, when he bought a meal from the Fish Basket takeaway in Station Road, and walked home alone.

Appealing for friends and witnesses to come forward, police described him as a man who was "well-known locally".
